Academic history

Yuan Ting graduated with a Bsc (Hons) in Life Sciences from the National University of Singapore in 2007. Her honours project was on how the araneophagic spider, Portia sp, viewed and responded to a prey spider, Hersilia sp, on contrasting and camouflaging backgrounds of white and brown bark. The behavioural choice trials with Portia were supplemented with spectrometric measurements to confirm Portia's choice.

She is currently working on a Msc project studying the behaviour of orangutans, Pongo pygmaeus and Pongo abelii, in the Singapore Zoo.

Research Interests

To investigate if visitors have any effect, and if so, is it positive, negative or neutral on the welfare of the orangutans in the Singapore Zoo as the orangutans there are well-habituated to visitors.

To investigate the social interactions of captive orangutans and to see if captivity has altered their otherwise solitary natures.

Other Interests and Hobbies

Yuan Ting has a strong interest in animals, alternative health and nutrition, as well as Tachyon energy.
